Spanish Football Federation decides who will play in Europe if season can't be finished

Madrid/Xinhua/UNI: The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has given its criteria for which teams will play European competitions if the current football season has to be cancelled due to COVID-19.

The RFEF's Delegate Commission confirmed that if no more games can be played this campaign, the top four teams in the Liga Santander (FC Barcelona, Real Madrid, Sevilla and Real Sociedad) would play in next season's Champions League, with the teams fifth and sixth (Getafe and Atletico Madrid)

qualifying for the Europa League.

If the final of the Spanish Copa del Rey (which was due to be played between Athletic Club Bilbao and Real Sociedad on April 18th) cannot be rescheduled, Athletic Club would claim the final Europa League place.

However, if the Cup final is able to be played and Real Sociedad win, then Valencia, who are currently seventh in the Liga Santander would take the last place in Europe.

So far 27 of the scheduled 38 matches of the Liga Santander have been played. With Spain still under lockdown, it has not been decided, how, when or if the remaining 11 matches can be finished.
