Roger Federer clinches Australian Open beating Rafael Nadal
Federer defeated his opponent 6-4 3-6 6-1 3-6 6-3.
Federer clinched his 18th Grand Slam win after clinching the title.
The final clash became a five-set encounter with both the players giving each other strong fight to delay the winner.
This was Federer's 5th Australian Open title5th Australian Open title.
This was first Grand Slam victory since 2012 when he had won the Wimbledon.
The Australian Open's official Twitter page quoted Federer and said: "Tennis is a tough sport, there's no draws but if there was I'd be happy to share it with Rafa tonight."
"Well done, congrats, I feel very happy for you," Nadal was quoted as saying by a tweet posted by Australian Open.
Congratulating Federer, Tennis player Juan M. del Potro tweeted, "Thank you both, don't you ever quit tennis!! GRANDEEE ROGER So inspiring!!"
