Rio Paralympics: Mariyappan Thangavelu wins gold

Rio, Sept 10 (IBNS): Two young Indian athletes have made India proud by clinching medals at the ongoing Rio Paralympics with Mariyappan Thangavelu winning gold medal in the men's high jump T-42 event on Friday.

 Indian Varun Singh Bhati clinched bronze in the event.

With a jump of 1.89 metre, Thangavelu won the gold medal.

Bhati took away the bronze medal with a jump of 1.86m.

It was also his personal best mark.

American Sam Grewe won silver medal.
