Match-fixing was at its peak in 1996: Akhtar
“The atmosphere of the Pakistan dressing room was very strange...Trust me it was the worst possible dressing room,” the pacer told Geo News.
Akhtar said he stayed away from match fixers.
"However, I always stayed away from fixers and cautioned others to do so as well and play with integrity and sincerity," he said.
He said he had asked Pakistani pacer Mohammad Amir back in 2010 to avoid meeting people who could attract people towards the malpractice.
Amir was banned and imprisoned for spot-fixing in 2010.
The five years ban imposed on him ended on September 2015.
