Mamata Banerjee wishes PV Sindhu for reaching Rio semis

Kolkata, Aug 17 (IBNS): West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday wished Indian shuttler PVSindhu after she reached the semi-finals of the women's singles event of the Rio Olympics here.

"#PVSindhu well done. All of us are following you at #Rio2016 with pride. Keep winning. Keep winning #Ind," Banerjee tweeted.

Keeping alive India's hope for a medal in Rio, Indian Shuttler PV Sindhu inched closer to a podium finish after she stunned Wang Yihan of China in straight sets.

Sindhu's 54-minute on court domination resulted in the game going in her favour 22-20, 21-19.

With this victory, Sindhu stands just a win away from a medal.

Her Chinese opponent, a veteran, had won the Silver Medal in 2012 London Olympics.

By virtue of her win, Sindhu matched her compatriot Saina Nehwal and became only the second Indian shuttler to make it to the last four stages of an Olympic game.
