Kolkata celebrate India's victory against Pakistan

Kolkata, Feb 15 (IBNS) Kolkata celebrated India's victory over arch-rivals Pakistan on Sunday as people were seen bursting firecrackers, distributing sweets or bringing out small processions with the posters of Indian cricketers on their hands to capture the moment in their hearts forever.

The city had  woke up early to witness the high-voltage encounter between the neighbouring nations. Both the sides expected to commence their World Cup campaign with a victory.

With India winning all their World Cup games against Pakistan so far, fans expected to see their team ensure another victory on Sunday.

Cricket lovers fixed their eye balls on their TV sets since morning and MS Dhoni and his team did not disappoint them as they defeated Pakistan by 76 runs.

Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami, who plays for Bengal in domestic cricket, picked up four wickets while Virat Kohli smashed 107 runs in this crucial clash between the two sides.

With this win, India took their victory margin against Pakistan in the World Cup to 6-0.

Elated fans were seen dancing on the streets and celebrating the victory across the east Indian city.

Social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter flooded with messages as netizens shared their feelings over the victory or wished their cricket stars for gifting them a victory against age-old rival Pakistan.

Even celebrities and politicians joined the rest of the city in celebrating the victory as they posted their thoughts on social networking sites.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee tweeted: "Whenever possible I follow India’s matches. Team India goodie goodie start to World Cup today. Congratulations."

TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee posted: " Congratulations #TeamIndia #ICCWorldCup2015 #IndiaVSPakistan."

Cricketer Manoj Tiwary tweeted: "Never ever history repeats itself so consistently as it does in WorldCups of #IndvsPak. Congrats 2 TeamIndia !!! Time 2 celebrate Victory "

Tollywood superstar Jeet said: "#IndiaVSPakistan Voltage getting higher!!"

Superstar Prosenjit Chatterjee tweeted: "Wat a gr8 beginning!Kohli is gtng dangerous day by day. Sami,excellent performance! N a decent innings played by Rayna.Good luck Team India!"

Actor Parambrata Chatterjee said: "Decent score by India but exceptionally good bowling by Wahab & Sohail Khan in the slog overs! Got to admit! Good contest waiting!"

Apart from celebrities, the common people of the city also rejoiced the victory.

A third year college student Adit Majumder said: "Today, the Indian team have shown their capability to perform when it mattered the most. I am not only happy but I feel proud that the young team made it 6-0 today."

A young IT professional Tanmoy Ghosh said: "Do you feel that it was a great win? I will call it one of the best matches I have ever seen. Kohli was brilliant and Shami performed well in the match where he needed to deliver for his country. India made my Sunday really special."

School teacher Priyam Mallick feels that the victory showed India can still win the World Cup.

"I was losing all hopes after the recent performance in the tri-series, Today, they showed that we can still hope to see them winning the trophy."

One house wife Tumita Hazra, who has watched all the six matches that these two teams have played in the World Cup, said: "It was a really interesting match. I wished to see India win and my dream was fulfilled. I am happy to see that our team showed an all-round performance against a strong team like Pakistan. I hope they will continue their strong performance in the tournament and win back the World Cup for another four years."

Riding on a big knock of Virat Kohli, India beat arch rivals Pakistan by 76 runs to register a spectacular win in their World Cup encounter at Adelaide on Sunday.

With their batsmen surrendering one after another, Pakistan were far away from the 301 run target India set for them riding on a scintillating century of Virat Kohli (107). Pakistan were all out for 224 runs in 47 overs.
