Kohli hits 211,Rahane shames 188 as India post 557/5 d

Indore, Oct 9 (IBNS): Strong show by skipper Virat Kohli, who hit a double century, and Ajinkya Rahane helped India put up a massive 557 for five on the scorecard, before declaring their first innings here on Sunday.

New Zealand finished the day at 28 for the loss of no wickets.

Martin Guptill (17*) and Tom Latham (6*) are currently at the crease.

Kohli hammered his second Test double century as he smashed 211 runs off 366 balls. He hit 20 boundaries in his innings.

He became the first Indian batsman to score two double Test centuries  as skipper.

It was skipper Jeetan Patel who got the wicket of Kohli to give New Zealand the much needed break in the innings.

Rahane also gave him good company by smashing 188 runs off 381 balls.

He hammered four sixes and 18 boundaries in his knock.

The duo added  365 runs in the fourth wicket partnership.

New Zealand bowlers struggled completely before the Indian batting lineup that has shown form in the current series.

Rohit Sharma later added 51 unbeaten runs with his willow.

In his 63-ball knock, Sharma smashed three boundaries and two sixes.
