India registered one of the memorable victories in the history of women's cricket when the eves defeated Australia by five wickets in the last four stages to reach the final of the World Cup on Thursday, banking on Jemimah Rodrigues' knock of 127 not out.

In a high-scoring encounter, Indian women chased down 338 runs set by Australia to reach 341 runs for the loss of five wickets, making fans feel cheerful.

Giving backup to Rodrigues, Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur scored 89 runs with her willow.

The duo added 167 runs in their partnership that helped India cruise towards the victory mark.

The initial Indian innings faced jolts when Shafali Verma (10) and Smriti Mandhana (24) fell early, and at 59 for 2, the Women in Blue struggled in the run chase.

India's victory hope struggled when Harmanpreet perished to a sharp catch by Ashleigh Gardner at deep mid-wicket, giving Australia another chance to return in the clash.

Deepti Sharma (24) played her part in rotation; Richa Ghosh (26 off 16 balls) brought fireworks when the chase needed a spark as they joined Rodreigues to cruise to victory.

Earlier in the day, Australia posted 338 runs on the scorecard with Phoebe Litchfield top-scoring with 119.

Ellyse Perry’s composed 77, and Ashleigh Gardner’s brisk 63 boosted Australia's batting.

Kim Garth (2/46) and Annabel Sutherland (2/69) drew blood for India.

India had played World Cup final in 2005 and 2017, ending up as runners up, behind Australia and England, in both occasions.
