Hangzhou: India is poised to achieve its highest-ever medal count at the 19th Asian Games with 69 medals already won and five more days of medal events remaining.

In the 2018 Games, India secured 70 medals, marking its previous-best performance at the continental event.

On Tuesday, athletics spearheaded India's campaign in the latter part of the day, following a strong showing in archery during the morning session.

Notable achievements include golds for Parul Chaudhary in women's 5000m and Annu Rani in women's javelin throw.

Tejaswin Shankar clinched silver in the decathlon, while Mohammed Afsal secured silver in the men's 800m.

Praveen Chitharavel and Vithya Ramraj added bronze medals in men's triple jump and women's 400m hurdles, respectively.

The first medal of the day for India came in Canoeing, with Arjun Singh and Sunil Singh Salam claiming bronze in the Men's Canoe Double 1000m event.

India's prospects in squash look promising with three assured medals - Saurav Ghosal in men's singles, Dipika Pallikal/Harinder Pal Singh, and Abhay Singh/Anahat Singh in mixed doubles.

In boxing, Olympic medallist Lovlina Borgohain secured a spot in the women's 75kg final, guaranteeing at least a silver medal. Unfortunately, Preeti and Narender concluded their campaigns with bronze medals.

Indian archers also demonstrated their prowess, securing a minimum of three medals in Compound events.

Ojas Pravin and Abhishek Verma have set up an all-Indian final in the Men's Compound Individual event, while Jyoti Surekha Vennam advanced to the final of the women's compound individual archery event.

The Asian Games is the second largest multi-sport event in the world, after the Olympic Games.

Around Indian 655 athletes are participating in the 2023 Asian Games, competing in 41 disciplines.

The Games will end on October 8, 2023.
