At 11 for the loss of the first wicket, KL Rahul forged a 61 run partnership with senior colleague Pujara, in what was a slow session for the home side.
The Australians bowled quick and was accurate, giving little respite to the Indian batters, who were bowled out Inside 80 overs in the last encounter.
Both Rahul and Pujara played cautiously, until Nathan Lyon got the better of the Saurashtra batsman, as a bit of extra bounce did the trick.
While his 66 balls yielded 17 runs, Rahul will resume his innings on 48 runs.
Playing in his home ground, the Karnataka lad has faced 93 balls so far, hitting eight of those for boundaries.
