Former wrestler Chyna dies, WWE mourns

California, Apr 21 (IBNS): Former WWE female wrestler Joan Marie Laurer, who is better known by her ring name Chyna, has died, officials said on Thursday.

 Police in Redondo Beach, California, confirm that Laurer, 45, confirmed CNN was found dead in her apartment on Wednesday.

Police said the cause of her death is under investigation.

World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) mourned her death and tweeted: "We are saddened to learn of the passing of Joanie "Chyna" Laurer."

WWE Chief Brand Officer Stephanie McMahon posted: "I just heard the tragic news that @ChynaJoanLaurer has passed. She was truly a pioneer in our industry, and she will be missed. #RIPChyna."

Another former WWE female wrestler Trish Stratus, who had fought several times against Chyna on the wrestling ring, tweeted: "Shattered glass ceilings, kicked down doors, broke gender barriers, she was an anomaly & untouchable. Rest now-ur legacy lives on #RIPChyna."

Former WWE wrestler Amy Dumas said: "So tragic. My heart is heavy today reflecting on this amazing woman. #RIPChyna."

Ex- WWE wrestler Mic Foley mourned her death and posted: "I wish I could hear Joanie laugh again. She had the most most beautiful, dorky, fully committed laugh."

Considered as one of the most popular wrestler to be associated with WWE, Laurer first rose to prominence in the professional wrestling promotion the World Wrestling Federation in 1997, where she performed under the ring name Chyna.

In her career, apart from being a wrestler, she had worked as an actor,glamour model, bodybuilder and pornographic film actor.
