First Test: India firmly on top after an all-round performance on day two

Galle, Aug 13 (IBNS) A twin century by Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli and a twin strike by the Indian bowlers in the Sri Lankan second innings have set India on top at the end of the second day of the first Test match here on Thursday.

Trailing by 192 runs, Sri Lanka are 2 down for 5 runs after losing both their openers cheaply in the four overs of play they had at the fag end of the day. Spinners R Ashwin and Amit Mishra picked up a wicket each.

Earlier in the day, resuming on their overnight score of 128 for 2, the Indian team folded for 375 runs. Indian skipper Virat Kohli (103) and Shikhar Dhawan (134) piled on the agonies for the hosts as they put up a partnership in excess of 200 runs for the third wicket.

In a rare failure for him, India’s go to man in the last two season, Ajinkya Rahane departed for naught.

Wicket-keeper Wriddhiman Saha notched up his maiden international Test half century as he scored 60 off 120 deliveries.

For Sri Lanka, T Kaushal picked up his first five wicket haul as the young spinner ended with figures of 5 for 134 runs. Nuwan Pradeep took three wickets, giving away 98 runs.
