First Test between India, England ends in draw

Nottingham/UNI: The first test of the five match series between India and England ended in a draw after entire fifth day's play was washed out, here on Sunday.

Before the start of play on Day 5, India were in a commanding position of 52/1, needing 157 more runs to win with nine wickets in hand and 98 overs left but the rain did not allow a single ball.

As part of the new World Test Championship cycle, both India and England will get four points each for this match.

India fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah (nine wickets) and KL Rahul (110 runs) were the star performers for for India in the first Test.

For England, captain Joe Root led from the front scoring a 21st Test century.

Brief scores: England 183 (Joe Root 64; Jasprit Bumrah 4-46) & 303 (Joe Root 109; Bumrah 5-64) drew with India 278 (KL Rahul 84; Ollie Robinson 5-85) & 52/1.
