FIFA World Cup 2022: Morocco defeat Portugal 1-0 to reach semis

Doha/IBNS: In a historic match in the FIFA World Cup 2022, Morocco stunned Portugal 1-0 on Saturday, becoming the first African and Arab nation to reach the semi-finals.

In a gruelling contest, Morocco displayed good defence throughout. The scoreboard displayed 0-0 till the 42nd minute when Morocco's En-Nesyri's goal changed the tally.

Aiming perfectly, En-Nesyri jumped and headed the ball coming from Yahya Attiat-Allah, leaping above the Portugal defenders and tipping it past goalkeeper Diogo Costa, who couldn't read the ball's flight and crashed into one of the defenders.

Portugal appeared lacking in breaking into Morocco's defence with Bruno Fernandes coming closest hitting a shot off the bar soon after Morocco's goal.

Portugal's star footballer Cristiano Ronaldo came off the bench six minutes after the break and couldn't do much to avoid his team's defeat.

Morocco's Walid Cheddira had to leave the field after receiving two yellow cards within a short period during extra time, implying that he is barred from playing in the semi-final.

The winning team will either play England or France, who will lock horns later on Saturday.
