Expressions on field will have to be genuine: Kohli tells Miss World Manushi

New Delhi, Dec 1 (IBNS): Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli, who is known for his on-field aggression, in an interaction with newly crowned Miss World 2017 Manushi Chhillar, said expressions during play will have to be genuine to inspire others.

Kohli's reply came after Manushi asked the Indian captain about how he would like to give back to the young Indian cricketers.

Manushi, who was attending an event with the Indian skipper, asked Kohli: "You are one of the best batsmen in the world today and you've been such an inspiration. You've really given back to the society. But there are lot of young people who draw inspiration from you. So, how would you like to give back specially for children in the world of cricket?"

In reply, Kohli said: "It is very important to understand when you do what you do and express yourself on the field, it has to be genuine and from the heart otherwise people (will) find out you are trying to pretend and they can never connect to you. I have never tried to be anyone else. I have always been myself."

"I have always mentioned that people had a lot of issues with how I was and how I had conducted myself but I never had any problem with that. The moment I started to change is the only time I changed. Everyone has to go through mutual process to be where to get to in life, to become more mature. But what's most important to understand is one should never lose their own identity, character and personality because if you try to be someone else, you can never succeed and inspire others..," he added.

Manushi has won the beauty pageant 17 years after Priyanka Chopra was crowned as the Miss World in 2000.

The 20-year-old medical student left behind top five contestants from England, France, Kenya and Mexico to win the crown.

The event was held in Sanya in China.

Participants from 118 countries participated in The Miss World beauty pageant.
