England wicketkeeper Matt Prior announces retirement from all forms of cricket

England, June 12(IBNS): England and Sussex wicketkeeper batsman Matt Prior has announced retirement from all forms of cricket with immediate effect. Prior was suffering from a Achilles injury which required surgery last year.

Prior was ruled out after the second test against India last year.

Prior had an operation which ruled him out of the remainder of 2014 season.

Announcing his decision, Prior said:"Today is a very sad day for me as I am forced to announce my retirement from the game I loved. I had been hoping and expecting to be fit for the 2015 season. Unfortunately, this had proved impossible, and I have now had to reach this decision."

"I would like to thank my family, team-mates, coaches and the people behind the scene that have supported me throughout the years," said he.

"I feel honoured to have played for Sussex and England as many times as I have and shared so many great times with both teams. I also feel privileged to have been involved in an era of such success for English cricket," Prior said.

Prior has played 79 Test and ended with 256 dismissal and has scored 4099 test runs. He became the first English batsman to score a century on Test debut against West Indies at Lord's in 2007.

Prior has also represented England in 68 ODI's and 10 T20Is.

English batsman Kevin Pietersen tweeted: "We may have had our differences, but I'd like to wish @MattPrior13 all the best for his future...we did play some v good cricket together!"
