A 64-run unbeaten partnership between Indian's off-spin twin Ravichandran Ashwin (58) and debutant Jayant Yadav (35) helped their team sail past the 400-run mark after a mini collapse triggered tension in the host's dressing room earlier.
India went ahead to score 455 runs.
Virat Kohli remained the top scorer for the Indian side with his 167 while Cheteshwar Pujara put up a strong show by scoring 119 runs.
