Dhawan hits big in Johannesburg, India set 290 as target for South Africa

Johannesburg, Feb 10 (IBNS): Rising on a marvelous hundred runs knock by Shikhar Dhawan, India have posted a total of 289/7 in 50 overs against South Africa in the fourth ODI match at the New Wanderers on Saturday.

After losing Rohit Sharma quickly, it was the partnership between Dhawan and skipper Virat Kohli which had constructed the Indian batting.

Both the batters put up a partnership of 158 runs for the second wicket.

Though Kohli, very unlikely, fell short of 25 runs from his 35th ODI century, Dhawan didn't miss the opportunity.

The left handed opening batsman scored 109 from 105 balls. He went for 11 fours and 2 sixes.

Though Indian middle order batsman Ajinkya Rahane was dismissed cheaply, MS Dhoni played the finishing role yet again.

Coming out to bat at the 37th over, Dhoni made small partnerships with Shreyas Iyer, Hardik Pandya, Bhuvneshwar Kumar to push the Indian total close to 300.

With no major support from the lower middle order batsmen, lone fighter Dhoni has once again proved that he is still one of the best finisher in the cricket world.

Dhoni remained unbeaten at 42 from 43 balls.

Kagiso Rabada and Lungisani Ngidi were the best bowlers for South Africa. Both of them picked two wickets each.

South Africa need to chase down the target at a rate of 5.8 runs per over.
