Mumbai, Oct 11 (IBNS): Defenders Kamaljeet Kumar and Nihal Chandran recently penned contract extensions with Mumbai FC.

Kamaljeet immediately became a part of the Mumbai FC squad back in 2007 before leaving for Pune FC in 2010. He re-signed for Mumbai in 2012 and has been at the club ever since.

On signing his new contract Kamaljeet said, “I wanted to stay here at this club and continue performing at the highest level. Like, always I’ll give my best to the team. The club has shown great ambition this transfer season and we hope to finish higher up the table in the I-League and give a strong performance in the Federation Cup.”

24 year old, Nihal, is one of many players to have climbed the ladder from the youth squad and play for Mumbai FC’s senior team, was really happy to extend his contract. “I am happy to commit to this club. It’s been fantastic here. I am thankful to Khalid Jamil who gave me an opportunity to perform at the highest level. We’ll try to do better this season and get a good spot in the I-League.”

Team Manager Henry Picardo confirmed the contract extensions. “Yes, Nihal and Kamaljeet will be Mumbai FC players next season. Kamaljeet has been here since the club started and Nihal too represents the philosophy of this club of producing it’s own players. Both are fantastic defenders and it’s always good to have them in the squad.”
