DDCA: Sehwag, Gambhir, Ishant come out in support of Arun Jaitley

New Delhi, Dec 20 (IBNS) Former Delhi and Districts Cricket Association (DDCA) president Arun Jaitley on Sunday got support from ex-Indian opener Virender Sehwag and his former Indian opening partner Gautam Gambhir and pacer Ishant Sharma over the recent alleged scam targeting the Union Finance Minister.

"In my time with DDCA if I ever came to know of any 'surprising' selection of a player, all I needed to do was to inform @arunjaitley," Sehwag tweeted.

"And @arunjaitley Ji would immediately ensure correction and justice for the deserving players at #DDCA," he said.

"Was a nightmare to speak to some others at DDCA but @arunjaitley ji was always available for players in case of any difficulty at any time," he said.

Gautam Gambhir said it was inappropriate to blame Jaitley for the scam.

"Grossly inappropriate 2 blame @arunjaitley ji 4 corruption in DDCA. He was d one who got Delhi a proper stadium widout taxpayer's money," Gambhir said.

Sharma said Jaitley was always helpful to him.

Indian bowler Ishant Sharma tweeted: " .@arunjaitley ji has always been helpful, fair and kind in all my interactions with him #DDCA."

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Congress recently united their voices in demand for the resignation of Jaitley over alleged financial irregularities in Delhi's cricket body-the DDCA, which was headed by him in the past.

Shrugging off the demand, Jaitley told media: "If they can tell me the specific charge I will be able to respond. I can't answer a vague allegation without any basis."

"A state government and party which is in the dock for having supported corruption and having interfered in an investigation in this manner can't really deflect the issue without any basis," the minister added.

His reaction comes after Congress leader Ajay Maken told media: "There should be a JPC on the DDCA irregularities."

"Arun Jaitley should resign as FM," he said.

Delhi Chief Minister  Arvind Kejriwal tweeted on Wednesday that the  documents seized by CBI from his office have no relation to allegations being probed.

Kejriwal, who alleged that  the CBI had raided his office for a file linked to corruption in the Delhi cricket body that Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley headed in the past, also tweeted  that the investigators read the file but "left it" after his media briefing.

"Docs seized from my office. No relation to allegations being probed. Item 7 -file movement register of last one month," he said.

"CBI kept reading DDCA file in my office. They wud hv seized it. But after my media briefing, they left it. Not clear if they took a copy," said his another tweet.

He said, "Why is Jaitley ji so scared of DDCA probe? What is his role in DDCA scam?"

Kejriwal had said on Tuesday that the CBI raided his office to search for files on the DDCA or Delhi and District Cricket Association, which, he said, had  Jaitley's name. AAP alleges that there were financial irregularities when Jaitley was the president of the Delhi cricket body for 13 years till December, 2013.

Jaitley called the allegations "absolutely rubbish" and  said: " I don't think I should comment on rubbish."
