Kolkata, Apr 1 (IBNS) : On day-three of 52nd State Chess Championship, now going on at Kalatan Community Centre, Gangulybagan, battle for the title has entered into interesting stage on Wednesday with Debashis and Rupankar splitting point in the sixth round.

But other top boards saw some enthralling battle between the title contenders. When 3 times former state champion Kunal Chatterjee last time played in this important championship in 1993, Mitrabha Guha’s parents were not married. 13-year boy Mitrabha, who has unprecedented record of winning state age-group championship for 7 times in a row, however succumbed to pressure against a very experienced player like Kunal and thus former  champion joined the lead again with Debashis, Rupankar, Laltu Chatterjee, and Debarshi Mukherjee, all have 5.5 points after sixth round. Laltu beat upcoming Kaustav Chatterjee.

In the 5th round, upcoming boy Kaustuv Kundu checked Kunal’s victory run in an absorbing contest.

The 5-Day 10-Round State Championship, which is organized by Bengal Chess Association in collaboration with Kolkata District Chess Association.  The tournament is also very important for the competitors, as it will decide 4 representatives of Bengal in the forthcoming National Challengers.
