Carse, Stokes tighten India's run-chase against England at Lord's

London/IBNS: Three wickets by Brydon Carse and Ben Stokes at the fag end of day four gave England a solid chance to win the third Test against Lord's in London.

Chasing 193, India on Sunday ended the day's play at 58-4 after nightwatchman Akash Deep, who was sent to safeguard in-form KL Rahul, was clean-bowled on the last ball of the day.

Deep, whose stumps were dislodged by Stokes, walked back for one when the hosts were cheered by the English spectators who are now waiting for a mouth-watering final day sum-up.

Rahul, a centurion from the first innings, looked in touch even on day four as he remained unbeaten at 33 off 47 balls (six fours) to chase down the modest target but on a tricky pitch.

India suffered a setback quite early after Yashasvi Jaiswal failed to tackle an extra bounce from Jofra Archer.

Rahul and Karun Nair stabilised the chase building a 36-run partnership for the second wicket but the hard work was undone when Nair walked back to the hut misjudging Carse's delivery to get dismissed LBW.

India captain Shubman Gill, who has scored over 600 runs in the series so far, could only add six to the scorecard before he was dismissed LBW by Carse again.

Though England look spirited after the last hour turnaround, the hosts still have a big task ahead as India are equipped with five solid batters including Rahul and vice-captain Rishabh Pant on the final day of the match.

Washington Sundar (4/22) caused major damage to England as the hosts crumbled to only 192 in the second innings.

Joe Root (40), Ben Stokes (33) and in-form Jamie Smith were the victims of Sundar, who were picked in the team over Kuldeep Yadav to much surprise to cricket analysts.

The series is evenly balanced at 1-1.
