Kolkata, Apr 23 (IBNS): After massive rain delay on Saturday, Gagan TMT Durgapur Warrior ultimately emerged as the champion at the inaugural edition of the Bengal Premier Tennis League, held at the Bengal Tennis Association complex between Apr 18 - 22.

Gagan TMT Durgapur Warrior's Vijay Kannan played the first Men's Singles to give the team a lead of 5 games, as he drubbed Midnapore Wave's Kunal Anand by a dominating 8-3, in a race to 8 games.

In the second singles, Sanil Jagtiani representing Midnapore Waves created a major upset of the day as he won against Saurav Sukul of Gagan TMT Durgapur Warrior by a contesting 8-7.

In Ladies Singles, Sai Samhitha of Gagan TMT Durgapur Warrior outclassed Amrita Mukherjee of Midnapore Waves by a close 8-5.

In the 4th match, i.e. the Men's Doubles, the duo of Vijay Kannan and Akshat Agarwal representing Gagan TMT Durgapur Warrior got the better of Midnapore Wave's Kunal Anand and Manoj Sewa by a nail biting 8-7.

The 5th match, which was the Mixed Doubles was not required to be played as Gagan TMT Durgapur Warrior was leading by 31 - 23 (after the 4th match) and since they had already won 3 matches out of 5, even if Midnapore Warriors had the won the Mixed Doubles by 8-0, still they would not have won the tie. [As per the rules of the BPTL, if two teams are tied at equal games, number of matches won will decide the result.]
