London, Oct 23 (IBNS): Former England skipper Andrew Flintoff will play for Brisbane Heat in the upcoming Big Bash League (BBL) this summer.

Flintoff on Thursday tweeted: "Can't wait to get started with @HeatBBL in the bigbash ! @ThursNightSport."

He said: "Might be the only time I ask the English to support an Aussie team , be great to have you all behind us @HeatBBL !! RT," the former international cricketer said.

The cricket side also confirmed signing the cricketer for the upcoming tournament.

"The Brisbane Heat will welcome Andrew “Freddie” Flintoff to their ranks for this summer’s KFC T20 Big Bash League following confirmation today he will continue his playing return in Australia," read the team's website.

Flintoff's ex-Lancashire teammate Stuart Law is now the Brisbane Heat coach.

“I’m excited to be coming back to Australia and especially to Brisbane which has always been a favourite spot of mine to play,” Flintoff told the team's website.

“Stuart and I have had a few conversations and I’m clear on what we’re looking to achieve in the competition. The Heat squad has some exciting talent and I’m looking forward to catching up with Dan Vettori again," he said.

Flintoff had announced his retirement from all forms of cricket in 2010.
