Hangzhou/IBNS/UNI: India's 19-year-old shooting sensation Ramita Jindal on Sunday won a bronze medal in the women’s 10m Air Rifle event at the ongoing Asian Games 2023.

Ramita finished with a score of 230.1, while compatriot Mehuli Ghosh scored 208.3 to finish fourth.

Chinese shooter Yuting Huang, who bagged the gold medal, finished with an Asian Games record score of 252.7.

Before clinching the podium position, Ramita had to bail herself out of intense competition and high-pressure situations. In the qualifier, she finished second, scoring an impressive 631.9 points.

Ramita's performance propelled her to the eight-shooter final, where she ultimately clinched the bronze medal.

Ramita clinching bronze adds colour to her fantastic journey in the sport and she has been a great ambassador for youngsters who are wanting to take up this sport. She had clinched a gold at the World Championships, routing a Chinese shooter in a high-pressure combat.

She was also part of the Indian team that won a silver medal in the women’s 10m air rifle team event.

Ramita and Mehuli Ghosh qualified for the individual finals with totals of 631.9 and 630.8 respectively.

Ramita, Ashi Chouksey and Mehuli Ghosh, finished second in the women's 10m air rifle team event with a combined score of 1886.0 to win the silver medal.

It is India's first medal of Hangzhou 2023. The gold medal was bagged by China.

The scores also counted as a part of the women's 10m air rifle women's individual event. Ramita and Mehuli, who finished second and fifth, respectively, also made it to the individual event final.

Ashi Chouksey, meanwhile, finished 29th in the individual standings.

Meanwhile, Indian shooter Anish made it to the men's 25m rapid-fire pistol final after finishing six in the qualification round. Anish, teamed with Adarsh Singh and Vijayveer Sidhu, ensured India ranked third in the men's 25m rapid-fire pistol team phase 1.
