26th National Sport Climbing Championship begins at NIM in Uttarakhand's Uttarkashi

The 26th National Sport Climbing Championship got off to a colorful start with Uttarakhand Sports Minister Rekha Arya inaugurating the three-day meet in presence of president of Indian Mountaineering Foundation Prof Harshvanti Bisht at Nehru Institute of Mountaineering here Friday afternoon.

Inaugurating the prestigious event, the Sports Minister equated the bold steps initiated by IMF president Prof. Harshvanti Bisht to that of the excellence achieved by many Indian women including that of Bachendri Pal, the first Indian woman to reach the summit of Mt Everest.

Earlier Prof Bisht in her  welcome address complimented the Minister for her dedicated support to Uttarakhand sport activities and sought her help to take Indian sport climbing to greater heights.

Speaking on the occasion, National Sport Climbing Committee Chairman Keerthi Pais iinformed that Indian Mountaineering Foundation
would be conducting at least ten National events in the next one year. 

He said the 26th National Championship was being  conducted fully out of own resources without seeking government aid.

Thanking the Principal of  Nehru Institute of Mountaineering for having shared the financial burden by hosting the championship, he said IMF was able to secure sponsors for the event.

He informed us that the competitions are being conducted strictly according to international standards.

NIM Principal  Col Amit Bisht  who is also the Chairman of  IMF North Zone Committee  intimated that all necessary arrangements were made to conduct the event successfully like earlier occasions .

Qualifying rounds of  various events were also held on the inaugural day.
