SVF Entertainment announces its maiden Indo-Bangladesh joint venture

Kolkata, Apr 21 (IBNS): SVF (Shree Venkatesh Films) Entertainment & Jazz Multimedia on Monday announced their alliance for producing Bengali films.

The first venture of Indo-Bangladesh joint venture will be the next Kakababu film by the ace director Srijit Mukherji.

Titled Yeti Obhijaan, the film is an adaptation of Pahar Churaye Aatonko from the Bengali adventure series - Kakababu.

Featuring the stalwart Prosenjit Chatterjee as Kakababu, the film will go on floors this May. It will be shot in India and Switzerland.

Originally conceptualized as the first 3D film of Bengal, Yeti Obhijaan will now witness a 2D release due to some infrastructure constraints.

The sole reason for the same is the lack of sufficient 3D screens in West Bengal.

As per multiplex reports, a 3D version of a film always has a better pull than its 2D version. But due to lack of 3D screens in Bengal, the audiences fail to watch the film.

Director Srijit Mukherji said, “Besides few multiplexes in the city, there are not many single screens out there that can play 3D films. Additionally, production-wise, there is a lack of proper 3D rigs to use jimmy jibs in Kolkata. Thus, I think it’s wise to shoot and release Yeti Obhijaan in 2D for now. I am hoping we will have proper infrastructure support by the time we do the third Kakababu.”

Pankaj Ladia, Multiplex Operator or Trade Analyst said, “Generally multiplexes has limited 3D auditoriums and the number of 3D shows gets divided among all the 3D movies and in most of the cases it has been noted that 2D version doesn’t work better if your 3D version is releasing, so a movie in 2D will have a better reach to audience than 3D”

Mahendra Soni, Director & Co-founder, SVF Entertainment said, “We make films to reach out to the mass and if audiences cannot enjoy the content the desired way, they feel cheated. From a business perspective - a film needs to work at the box office and if the infrastructure doesn’t support proper screens, there is no point pushing for a different version of the film to suffer losses. Thus, we have jointly decided to go for the 2D version of the film.”

Yeti Obhijaan is scheduled to release in December 2017.
