Shyam Benegal to head panel to revamp CBFC, Bollywood welcomes move

Mumbai, Jan 2 (IBNS) Ace film maker Shyam Benegal has been appointed by the central government head of a panel created to revamp the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), according to reports.

Benegal's inclusion in the panel received a warm welcome by industry veterans who thinks the time is right for him to take the reigns.

For some time now, pundits were expressing their strong dislike against present chairman of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) Pahlaj Nihalani, who they accused of narrowing their creative freedom.

Calling the move 'fabulous', veteran thespian Anupam Kher was quoted by Hindustan Times as saying, "There is no one better than Shyam Benegal to decide the future of Indian cinema. It is a fabulous step. They have chosen people who are not only good in their field, but are social aware and know what is happening in the country as well."

Film director Hansal Mehta said, "Shyam Benegal is a man of integrity and a filmmaker all of us respect. I am hoping it is a step in the right direction... When the government takes initiative, as citizens, we should try and support it."

Others too have voice their opinion and are of the opinion that Benegal will help them.
