Kolkata to host 9th International LGBT film festival

Kolkata, Nov 23 (IBNS): The ninth edition of Dialogues: Calcutta International LGBT Film & Video Festival will commence from Thursday in the city, just after the conclusion of 21st Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF).
The four-day-long festival will screen as many as 38 films including 11 features, 5 documentaries, 1 docu-fiction, 20 shorts and 1 short-fiction from 13 countries including India, Argentina, Australia, Canada, Chile, Denmark, Germany, Indonesia, Morocco, Romania, Spain, UK and USA.
 
Sappho for Equality, an activist platform for the rights of lesbian, bisexual women and transgender persons and Pratyay Gender Trust, a sexualities and human rights advocacy initiative for transgender women, in collaboration with The Goethe Institut/Max Mueller Bhavan Kolkata, have organized the festival jointly.
 
Dialogues, which was launched in 2007, is a celebration of writers, directors, actors and their work dealing with gay lesbian, bisexual, and transgender themes and issues.
 
Through a statement, the organizers stated, "The Festival will focus on showcasing feature films, shorts, and videos from national and international filmmakers, typically highlighting major feature films of interest to the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community, simultaneously providing a much-needed venue for independent film and video from India and abroad on these themes."
 
"This year, apart from feature films and exciting shorts and videos from across the country, especially from young film makers, we shall be screening a selection from the Berlinale Film Festival as well as Dresden Film Festival in addition to a short section from Mailuki Films, Spain, IAWRT & Queer Nazariya," the statement further said.
 
However, the festival, which will be held at Max Mueller Bhavan in Kolkata, will conclude on Nov 29.
