Actress Melissa Barrera has been removed from the upcoming Scream movie sequel after the production company of the film said her pro-Palestinian social media posts were antisemitic, media reports said.

The star has posted regularly about the Israel-Gaza conflict, including resharing one post that accused Israel of "genocide and ethnic cleansing", reported BBC.

Production company Spyglass said it had "zero tolerance for antisemitism or the incitement of hate in any form", the British media reported.

A spokesperson for Spyglass, the company behind the Scream franchise, issued a statement which was quoted as saying by The Hollywood Reporter: “Spyglass’ stance is unequivocally clear: We have zero tolerance for antisemitism or the incitement of hate in any form, including false references to genocide, ethnic cleansing, Holocaust distortion or anything that flagrantly crosses the line into hate speech.”

Who is Melissa Barrera?

In Mexico, the actress is known for roles in the telenovelas Siempre tuya Acapulco (2013), Tanto amor (2015), and the Netflix series Club de Cuervos (2017).

Outside of Mexico, she is best known for her role as Sam Carpenter in the slasher films Scream (2022) and Scream VI (2023), and for starring in the Starz show Vida (2018–2020) and the musical film In the Heights (2021).

What do we know about the current Israel-Hamas conflict?

The conflict began after Hamas members on October 7 attacked southern Israel and left at least 1200 people killed and took 240 others hostage.

Israel soon launched a military operation against Hamas.

According to reports, over 14000 people have been killed in Gaza since Israel launched the operation.

Israel and Hamas have reached a deal to release 50 hostages held in Gaza during a four-day pause in fighting.
