Kolkata: Bengali news channel ZEE 24 Ghanta editor Anjan Bandyopadhyay died of Covid-19 in a Kolkata hospital on Sunday evening, the channel announced.

A journalist whose career spanned over three decades, he had begun his professional journey with Ananda Bazar Patrika. Later he worked with Zee group, ETV Bangla and Ananda Bazar group digital section (ABP Digital)  before returning to Zee again very recently.

The news left the media fraternity in Kolkata in a state of shock and disbelief as the well-known journalist became a latest victim of the devastating second wave of Covid-19.

He was associated with ZEE 24 Ghanta from 2006 to 2015 as the editor of input. He was a popular face in Bengali television.

Recently, he had joined TV9 before switching over to Zee 24 Ghanta Bengali news channel again as its editor.

He was first admitted in hospital on April 14 but was later discharged. After his condition deteriorated, he was again admitted in hospital.

Meanwhile, the Press Club in Kolkata condoled the death of Bandyopadhayay and remembered him as a skilled and professional journalist who also had trained many young journalists successfully too.

West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar also condoled his death.
