Youth killed in firing as fresh Kashmir violence greets Rajnath Singh
Srinagar, Aug 25 (IBNS) : A youth was killed and several were injured in firing by security forces as fresh violence erupted in Kashmir greeting Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, who arrived in Srinagar on Wednesday.
Reports said the youth, identified as Mohammad Amir Mir, was fatally injured when police and CRPF opened fire to disperse a violent mob of protestors at Pinglena in south Kashmir's Pulwama district.
With this death death, the toll in the ongoing unrest in the Valley has climbed to 66.
The incident occurred when villagers tried to force their way to Prichoo, the venue for a rally and security forces blocked all the roads to foil the programme. After the mob clashed with forces, first smoke shells and pellets were fired. When that failed to disperse the people, the forces opened fire.
Meanwhile, Union Home Minister, Rajnath Singh arrived in Srinagar to take stock of the situation in Kashmir that is being plagued by regular violence for the last 47 days.
Singh will be meeting various delegations especially leaders of mainstream political parties.
Curfew remained in force in some areas of Srinagar and two towns of south Kashmir on Wednesday, while restrictions on the assembly of people in rest of the Valley continued since the encounter death of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani on July 8.
On Tuesday, the authorities lifted curfew from most areas of Srinagar following improvement of situation.
