Yadav's sexist comment creates uproar in Parliament
New Delhi, Mar 16 (IBNS): The Parliament on Monday witnessed uproar over the sexist comment made by Janata Dal-United (JD-U) chief Sharad Yadav last week on skin complexion of women, with MPs demanding an apology from him.
However, Yadav remained defiant and refused to admit that he did any mistake.
"I want to say that in India, women with dark complexion are more in number. Even in world, they are more in number. And for that, I am ready to debate with any power of the world. We are in favour of respecting women," Yadav told media.
Inside the Parliament, Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani told Yadav: "I appeal to you to not pass any comment on anyone's skin colour. You are a senior member of the House and there is a very wrong message going outside."
To her stand, a defiant Yadav created a more controversial situation and said, "I know what you are."
When DMK lawmaker Kanimozhi stood up, he brushed her protest aside, saying: "Your God is dark like Ravi Shankar Prasad, but your matrimonial ads insist on white-skinned brides," adding, "The bodies of women from the south are as good as they are beautiful."
This comes after Yadav Yadav on Thursday triggered a controversy by making remarks on skin colour and south Indian women and said people are obsessed with fair skin.
During a debate on the Insurance Bill in Rajya Sabha on Thursday, Yadav said:"People are awed by fair skin here. All are obsessed about fair skin...If you look into the matrimonial then also you find all are searching for gori, gori (fair skin)."
"The women of south are beautiful...Their bodies...We don't find it here," Yadav had said.
He had also made a remark on the British filmmaker, who made the documentary 'India's Daughters', and said Leslee Udwin easily got access to shoot the film due to the colour of her skin.
