‘Will return for swearing-in’: Modi ends Bengal campaign, signals BJP win
Kolkata/IBNS: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday expressed confidence about a change of guard in West Bengal, citing “overwhelming support” for the Bharatiya Janata Party during his campaign.
Wrapping up his high-voltage electioneering, Modi said he was confident of returning to the state for the swearing-in ceremony of a BJP Chief Minister, signalling his belief in the ouster of the All India Trinamool Congress government.
‘Will Return for BJP CM’s Swearing-in’
Addressing a rally in Jagatdal in North 24 Parganas, Modi said: “The overwhelming support for the BJP across the state reinforces my confidence in the party’s victory.
“As I wrap up my campaign, I leave with the firm belief that I will soon have to return to witness a BJP Chief Minister’s swearing-in.”

High Stakes Second Phase Ahead
After a massive voter turnout of over 90% in the first phase, 142 seats across seven districts will go to polls in the second and final phase on April 29.
Key districts in focus include:
- North 24 Parganas
- South 24 Parganas
- Kolkata
- Howrah
These are considered strongholds of the ruling TMC.
Campaign Trail Highlights
On Sunday, Modi visited the Thanthania Kali Temple in North Kolkata before holding a massive roadshow, drawing large crowds and enthusiastic supporters.
BJP’s Optimistic Projections
Union Home Minister Amit Shah claimed the BJP is on course for a decisive victory.
“Based on our assessment, out of 152 seats in the first phase, the BJP is likely to win more than 110.”
He added that trends from the second phase further strengthen the party’s chances of forming the government.
TMC Counters BJP Claims
The TMC, however, dismissed the BJP’s projections.
Party spokesperson and Beleghata candidate Kunal Ghosh claimed the ruling party is heading for a fourth consecutive term, asserting it has already secured around 130 seats in the first phase.
