Will not be able to reveal black money details: Centre tells SC
The apex court has agreed to the application filed by the Centre in connection with the matter on Oct 28, reports said.
The Congress attacked the Centre over the issue as party leader Ajay Maken tweeted: "#BJPBlackMoneyDhokha says it all!"
The party also tweeted: "#BJPBlackMoneyDhokha
People of India want to know where are those Rs 15-20 Lakh you had promised, Shri Modi? "
Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley defended the move taken by the Centre and said the details of people under investigation for having black money account cannot be revealed until chargesheet has been filed in court in connection to the matter.
"We have no difficulty in making the names public. But it can be made public only in accordance with the due process of law. The due process of law has been constrained by a double taxation avoidance treaty which was entered between India and Germany when the Congress party was in power on 19th June, 1995," Jaitley told reporters.
The issue of bringing back black money was a significant matter that was pulled up by the BJP during its campaigning ahead of the Lok Sabha polls.
