Messaging application WhatsApp's global outage has triggered memes on micro-blogging site Twitter with #whatsappdown.

Several users have switched to other social networking sites for texting and staying connected online.

The news of getting WhatsApp down started coming from around 12:45 pm.

Meta, which owns WhatsApp, has issued a statement saying it is working to restore services.

"We're aware that some people are currently having trouble sending messages and we're working to restore WhatsApp for everyone as quickly as possible," a Meta spokesperson said as quoted by various media.
