Kolkata/Bankura, Jan 31 (IBNS): At least three miners, including a woman, died and another went missing after an illegal coal mine collapsed at Bagulia OCP (Open Cast Project) area under Barjora Police Station limits in West Bengal's Bankura district on Thursday morning, reports said.

This comes a little more than a month after 15 miners went missing in an illegal "rat-hole" mine that suddenly got flooded in Meghalaya.

In the latest incident, as many as six miners were said to be down in the abandoned coal mine when the landslide occurred.

After being informed, local police and rescue workers rushed to the scene and recovered three bodies.

"The deceased have been identified as Biswanath Bagi, Koli Bagi and Habal Bagdi," a local police official told IBNS.

"Two more persons, Ranjit Bagdi and Sumitra Bagdi, were seriously injured in the accident and after being rescued, they have been admitted to Bankura Medical College and Hospital in critical condition," the official added.

Police said that one more person, Rinku Bagdi, had gone missing in the landslide occurred.

"All the deceased, injured and missing persons are local residents," a police officer said.

"Our search and rescue operation is still on to find the missing miner," he added.

In the Meghalaya mine tragedy, the body of only one miner has been recovered and the chances of the others surviving is next to none.
