Kolkata: At least six people died in Howrah's industrial Ghusuri area on Wednesday after they allegedly consumed locally made brew last night, police and eyewitnesses said.

Besides six deaths, 20 other people, who also had brew on Tuesday night, were admitted to hospitals, sources added.

The family members of the victims alleged that their death happened due to the consumption of poisonous liquor made locally.

They said the victims had consumed "cholai" or local brew from a hideout near a railway station at Malipanchghara police station on Tuesday night.

They apprehended that the toll may go up.

Meanwhile, an irate mob demolished some the dens in the area early today after reports of death spread.

Howrah police commissioner Praveen Tripathi rushed to the spot with reinforcement.
