West Bengal Municipal Election: Counting of votes underway

Kolkata: Counting of votes for the West Bengal Municipal Election began on Wednesday morning under a massive security blanket, sources said.

Nearly, 77 per cent of voters exercised their democratic rights amidst high security during polls to 108 municipalities to decide the fate of 8160 candidates across West Bengal on Sunday.

Polling was not held in 103 wards as only one candidate each filed nomination, and they were declared uncontested winners, they added.

Widespread violence was reported during the polling which took place on Sunday.
