Barasat, Aug 19 (UNI) A BSF patrol party, guarding the Indo-Bangla border in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas, has nabbed seven cattle smugglers, after chasing them for about six hours, from border outpost of Swarupnagar, Police said today.

The incident happened at Koijuri under Swarupnagar bock in North 24 Parganas. The stretch of Indo-Bangla border in the area is extremely porous and a safe haven for cattle smugglers. The clandestine market just across the border fetches at least Rs 5000 instantly, for a stolen cow.

A unit of BSF Jawans, while patrolling, noticed a fleet of cattle was being herded. When the guards sounded halt the cattle smugglers immediately hurled stones and missiles but the Indian troops retaliated, forcing them to abandon the beasts and run for safety. However, the jawans tracked them down and found them hiding in the midst of water hyacinth.
