West Bengal: 5 killed in three road mishaps

Kolkata/East Medinipur, Oct 30 (IBNS): At least five persons were killed and another was seriously injured in three road accidents in south Kolkata and at two different locations in West Bengal's East Medinipur district since Saturday midnight, reports said.

According to reports, a middle aged man, who was later identified as Dipak Manna, was killed when his sedan lost its control and crashed into a road-side tree at Haldia township area in East Medinipur district on Saturday midnight.

On the wee hours of Sunday, police recovered three youths' bodies from National Highway 41 at Kolaghat area in the same district.

As a crashed motorcycle was recovered from the spot, police are suspecting that the trio, who have been identified as Surajit Hazra, Manab Mondal and Spandan Jana, was killed after their bike was hit by an unidentified speeding vehicle.

Meanwhile, a 26-year-old biker- Samir Biswas- was killed and his female pillion rider- Piu Jana- was seriously injured when their scooty hit a divider on Lake Gardens flyover under Charu Market Police Station limits in south Kolkata on Sunday morning.

Police officials said that both did not wear helmets while riding the scooty.
