Kolkata, May 6 (IBNS): At least two workers were killed and seven others were injured when molten steel accidentally fell on them at the Indian Iron and Steel Company (IISCO)'s steel plant at Burnpur area in West Bengal's West Burdwan district on Saturday early morning, reports said.

According to reports, the incident took place at around 4 am. while more than ten labourers were working at IISCO's CCP plant area.

"Two contractual labourers, Shahanwaz Sheikh and Asish Sikka, were killed in the accident and seven others were seriously hurt," a local police official told IBNS.

"Three of the seven injured were discharged from a nearby hospital after first aid while remaining four are being treated in a private hospital at Durgapur in serious conditions," the official further said.

However, the Steel Authority of India Ltd. (SAIL) has reportedly ordered a high-level enquiry into the incident and formed a probe-committee while local police have also started investigation into the matter.

The SAIL has also promised to provide all necessary supports to the families of two deceased and to bear the cost of injured's treatments.
