WB govt reinstates 6 SPs and 1 DM, sends 4 police officials on compulsory waiting

Kolkata, May 25 (IBNS): Two days prior to the re-elected Mamata Banerjee-led government's swearing-in, West Bengal government on Wednesday reinstated as many as six Police Superintendents and one District Magistrate, who were earlier removed by the Election Commission of India (ECI) before the recently concluded assembly polls in the state.

The government has also sent four other IPS officers on compulsory waiting.

According to an order published by the state authority, IPS officials Bharati Ghosh, Prasun Banerjee, Arnab Ghosh, Mukesh, Tanmoy Roy Chowdhury and Kunal Agarwal have been reinstated as the SPs of West Midnapore, Malda, South Dinajpur, Birbhum, North 24 Parganas and Burdwan districts respectively.

P. B. Selim, who was removed by ECI from the post of South 24 Parganas' DM, has been reinstated as well.

Meanwhile, South Dinajpur SP Rashid Munir Khan, who was posted by the ECI, and three Divisional Deputy Commissioners (DCs) of Kolkata Police, including DC-ESD Dhrubajyoti Dey, DC-SSD Santosh Pandey and DC-SED Sumanjit Roy, have been sent on compulsory waiting.

However, SP-CIF of WBP Bhaskar Mukherjee, SP West Midnapore Badana Varun Chandra Sekhar and Burdwan SP Gaurav Sharma have been posted as the DC-ESD, DC-SSD and DC-SED of Kolkata Police respectively.
