WB CM announces Jhargram as new district of the state

Jhargram, Apr 4 (IBNS): West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee formally announced Jhargram as the new district of the state by bifurcating West Midnapore, on Tuesday, media reports.

Jhargram became the 22nd district of West Bengal with eight blocks, one Corporation, nine police stations.

Announcing the new district of the state, the WB CM said: "Today is the birthday of this new district, Jhargram. Every year this day shall be celebrated as Jhargram Day."

Mamata thanked the people of Jangalmahal for bringing peace in the last six years which was earlier dominated by Maoists.

"Once people played holi with blood and now they are celebrating festivals," she said referring to the changes of the area.

Mamata said that the government sanctioned 200 crore for the development of Jhargram and also revealed that the making of Jhargram University is currently in the planning. .

The WB CM did not miss a chance to highlight the developmental activities of Trinamool Congress government like 35000 jobs given to police, 10 lakh soft loans provided to students for higher education, Kanyashree, Shabuj sathi and the increase in salary of civic volunteers.

Mamata ensured that around two lakh folk artists will be employed in the coming years.

Reiterating the tax waiving from farm lands, the WB CM urged the central government to dismiss the loans taken by farmers.

She also attacked Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for spreading communalism in the state.

Referring to Ramayana tales, the CM said: "We all should be united and not indulge any provocations."
