Veterinary doctor rape-murder: All accused sent to judicial custody for 14 days

Hyderabad/IBNS: All the four accused arrested in connection with the rape and murder of a veterinary doctor in Telangana have been sent to 14-day judicial custody on Saturday.

The Mandal Executive Magistrate passed the order.

The Mandal Executive Magistrate passed the orders at Shadnagar police station as the accused could not be produced in a fast-track court at Mahabubnagar, mainly because of the tense situation that prevailed outside the police station. The magistrate was brought to the police station from the back door, reported The News Minute.

The four accused have been identified as Mohammed Arif, Chintakunta Chennakeshavulu, Jollu Shiva and Jollu Naveen.

The rape and murder incident had triggered massive protests across the nation.

On Wednesday night, the woman had gone missing while she was returning to her home from the workplace.

Her younger sister lodged a complaint with the police where she informed that she got a call from the victim at 9.22 pm on Wednesday stating she was stranded at a toll plaza as her two-wheeler had a puncture.

On Thursday morning, the police recovered her clothes, handbag, footwear and a liquor bottle near the toll booth where she had parked her bike.

The victim's body was found with 70 per cent burn injuries under a bridge, in neighbouring Ranga Reddy district, which is some 30 km away from the toll booth.

The family could identify the body with the help of a Lord Ganesha locket that the victim used to wear.

The body was then handed over for autopsy.

The police suspect that the culprits might have strangled her after raping and then poured kerosene on the victim's body to burn it.

The bike was found 10 km away from the body.

Police have arrested four people in connection with the murder.

Meanwhile, the incident has led to a massive outcry across the country with people demanding justice for the victim.
