Venkaiah Naidu disapproves Vice President's claim of 'insecurity among minorities'

New Delhi, Aug 10 (IBNS): Vice President-elect Venkaiah Naidu on Thursday rejected the claim of incumbent Hamid Ansari who said there is an insecurity among minorities in the country, media reports said.

Vice President Ansari was at his office for the last time on Thursday.

However, the outgoing VP said in an interaction with Rajya Sabha TV that the minorities in the country are insecure.

Ansari was quoted by media as saying that incidents of lynching, 'ghar wapsi' and alleged killings of rationalists is a "breakdown of Indian values, breakdown of the ability of the authorities at different levels in different places to be able to enforce what should be normal law enforcing work and over all the very fact that Indianness of any citizen being questioned is a disturbing thought."

Ansari also said the questioning of citizens over their love for India as a "disturbing thought", according to media reports.

Ansari, 80, who was the VP of India for two terms, said he had flagged the issue of 'intolerance'  with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his cabinet members, reported NDTV.

Naidu took on Ansari and rejected the latter's claim as politically motivated.

Precisely, the VP-elect said some people blow things out of proportion for certain political considerations.

The Rajya Sabha on Thursday bid farewell to the outgoing Vice President of India.

PM Modi joined Rajya Sabha members in the farewell ceremony to convey his best wishes to the outgoing Vice President.

Modi said that Hamid Ansari’s family has an illustrious history of over 100 years in public life.

The Vice President had been a career diplomat, and he had benefited from the Vice President’s insights on diplomatic issues on several occasions, the PM added.

Ansari will be succeeded by veteran BJP leader Venkaiah Naidu.

Naidu won the VP election defeating Opposition's candidate and former West Bengal Governor Gopal Krishna Gandhi.
