Varun Gandhi leaked defence secret after being honeytrapped: Letter to PM

New Delhi, Oct 20 (IBNS): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Varun Gandhi has landed in a controversy after a letter sent to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's office accused him of leaking crucial information about defence matters to arms manufacturers.

According to reports, the letter said that Varun took such a step after being blackmailed with pictures of him with foreign escorts and prostitutes.

The complaint, dated September 16, has been filed by C Edmonds Allen, a US-based lawyer.

He alleged that Gandhi was used by controversial arms dealer Abhishek Verma to disclose defence details to arms manufacturers who were seeking opportunity to get business in India.

Refuting the charges, Varun told NDTV, "How can I respond to something so ridiculously nonsensical. Is there any proof of any of these allegations? What is the proof of any of this?"

He told the channel that he has not met Verma in over 15 years and that any photos presenting him as "honey-trapped" are not genuine.

He said that the allegations being made may be intended at preventing a role for him in the Uttar Pradesh election.
