Ghazipur: A 35-year-old youth was hacked to death with a spade allegedly by his father over a petty dispute in Baresar area of Ghazipur district in Uttar Pradesh, police sources said here on Saturday.

The sources said that Vashishth Singh alias Bangali, a resident of Dilshad Pur, owns a tubewell outside the village.

"On Friday night Vashishth had a dispute with his son Shailendra Singh over some issue. During this, Vashishth attacked Shailendra with a spade and hacked him to death," they said.

Sources also said that the villagers came to know about the incident when they reached the tubewell this morning. "Vashishth has been arrested and the body has been sent for post-mortem examination," they said.

In-charge of Baresar police station said that the accused was being quizzed. He said that it was not clear why Vashishth killed his son.

Police sources said that Shailendra's wife is the village head.
