Uttar Pradesh: Six killed in cold storage incident in Sambhal, rescue continues

Sambhal/UNI: Six people have died thus far and 11 people have been admitted to the hospital during the rescue operation after the chamber of a cold storage collapsed in Chandausi area of Sambhal district here in Uttar Pradesh, a senior officer said here on Friday.

District Magistrate Manish Bansal said that the chamber of RA cold storage near Barahi village in Chandausi area collapsed on Thursday noon and several farmers and labourers were trapped in the debris and sacks of potatoes.

He said that so far 17 people have been taken out of the debris out of which 6 died.

"11 people are injured. Rescue operation continues and the debris of the roof has been removed. Now sacks and other concrete structures are being removed," he said.

Police sources said that those killed in the incident have been identified as Rohtash, Rakesh, Ishtiyaq, Prem and two unidentified persons.

"Ram Mohan, Roop Singh, Mahesh, Suraj Pal and Rajendra are being treated at TMU hospital in Moradabad. In the meantime, Prem Pal, Arun, Sandhu, Manoj, Prem Singh and Narrottam have been discharged from the hospital," they said.
