A Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) jawan deployed at Sankisa Buddha Teerth Sthal shot himself and committed suicide in the Merapur area of Farrukhabad district in Uttar Pradesh on Sunday, police sources said.

Police sources said a company of the 28th battalion of PAC from Etawah was deployed for the security of a two-day event on the occasion of Sharad Purnima at the pilgrimage site.

"One of the jawans, Sachin Kumar (27) shot himself with his rifle and committed suicide in the morning," they said.

Station House Officer (SHO) Merapur Digvijay Singh said the PAC jawans were staying at Bhadant Vijay Som Inter College.

"Around 6:25 am, Jawan Sachin, a resident of Mursan area in Hathras district, shot himself and committed suicide. Prime facie, it has been revealed that the jawan was suffering from some ailment," he said.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Vikas Kumar, along with Additional SP Dr Sanjay Singh and police, inspected the spot. The family members of the jawan have been informed.
